Scholastic Book Fair – April 30 – May 4, 2012

As the Book Fair approaches, the students look forward to reading new books. Reading is the most important skill for your child to develope. It is an accrued skill. And like any skill, the more your child practices, the better they get.

Book Fair to be held in Miss Hoffmann’s Classroom.

Book Fair Schedule:
Monday, April 30, 2012 (11:00 – 2:30 )
All classes will preview the Book Fair.

Tuesday, May 1, 2012 (11:00 – 2:30)
Students may buy books at the Book Fair. CASH ONLY.

Family Night – Tuesday, May 1, 2012 (3:00 – 6:00)
Families may come to buy books. Parents may pay with cash, checks, or credit cards.

Wednesday, May 2, 2012 (11:00 – 2:30)
Students may buy books at the Book Fair. CASH ONLY

Thursday, May 3, 2012 (11:00 – 2:30)
Last day for students to buy books at the Book Fair. CASH ONLY

February 27 – March 2, 2012
D.E.A.R will take place daily for 15 minutes in each class.
Raffle of Dr. Seuss Baskets (PreK-Grade 3) – 1 ticket .25 – 5 tickets$ 1.00
Raffle Basket of Books (Grades 4-8) – 1 ticket .25 – 5 tickets $1.00
Raffle tickets will be sold at lunch.

Monday – Upper grade will read with lower grades – each class will choose time, that works for them.
8th Grade – Kindergarten
7th Grade – 1st Grade
6th Grade – 2nd Grade
5th – Pre K

Tuesday – Grades Pre K – Grade 3 will make Cat in the Hat – Hats (in their classroom)
Grades 4-8th will make Cat in the Hat – Pins

Wednesday – WACKY SOCK DAY – WITH UNIFORM
Morning Prayer Service students will take Readers Oath
9:00AM – Gym – Grades 4-8 will watch the DVD of the original “Lorax”
Grades 4-8 will participate in the Scholastic “Lorax” Writing Contest (rules attached)
PreK-Grade 3 – Dr. Seuss Birthday Party – 1:00PM – Cafeteria
Students will watch Green Eggs and Ham DVD, then Mrs. Hernandez (Zyrus’s Mom) will be Cat in the Hat, students will have cupcakes and juice, all classes will take picture with Cat in the Hat.

Thursday – Red or White Shirts or Dr. Seuss Shirts Tag Day – All students may wear Striped CAT in the Hats – Cost $1.00
Police Officer/Detective Keith, Springfield Police Dept. will come to read to PreK and Kindergarten at 9:00AM, and Grades 1-3 at 9:30AM in the Cafeteria on the rug.
Friday – 9:00AM – Mass
10:00AM – Raffles will be drawn over the intercom.

St. Peter’s School – Learns about Martin Luther King, Jr.

A quote by Martin Luther King, Jr. – When the history books are written, someone will say there lived black people who had the courage to stand up for their rights.
The students in PreK and Kindergarten will read the book ” Martin’s Big Words”, by Doreen Rappaport.
The students in Grades 1st – 5th Grade will read the book”Meet Martin Luther King Jr., by Johnny Ray Moore.
The students in Grades 6 and 7 will read two nonfiction pieces called, Peace-Martin Luther King Jr. and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Martin Luther King Jr. wanted these words to be for everyone FREEDOM and PEACE, His big words are alive for us today. Together I have a dream LOVE.

Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Monday, January 16, 2012 – NO SCHOOL – Please take a moment and show kindness to another person this day. Live as Martin Luhter King Jr. dreamed, we as Americans can live in peace and harmony.

Grades 6-8 AAA Poster Contest

Grades 6-8
AAA Annual Traffic Safety Poster Contest
Students in Grade 6-8, will participate in this contest.
Students will work on this poster in Art Class during the month of January.
Poster is due Monday, February 6, to be mailed in to contest.
Students will design a poster on 12×18, white construction paper.
They can use crayons, colored pencils, regular pencils, or markers. They must draw a picture and include one of the captions from below.
The theme is: How to be a Good Passenger.
Ideas for captions:
• Buckle Up
• Don’t Distract the Driver
• Dangers of Using a Cell Phone
• Changing the Radio/CD While Driving

This will count a 50% of their grade for the 2nd Trimester.

Grades 3-5 AAA Poster Contest
