Grades Kindergarten – 2nd

Lesson :  Aluminum Foil Printing

Materials:  Aluminum foil, water soluble markers and either crayons or sharpies, paper (heavier paper is easier but not necessary.) spray bottle for water or damp sponge.

Watch:  Here are 2 videos that show the basic process:

Foil Transfer Art : 6 Steps (with Pictures)

Foil Marker Print: Rainbow Robot!

Make:

  1.  Draw a simple outline drawing of something such as a heart or a robot on paper with either sharpie or black crayon.
  2.  Color the aluminum foil with markers in a variety of colors.
  3. If you have a spray bottle, you can spray the foil or the paper.  If you use a damp sponge, just lightly dampen the paper.
  4. Press the drawing onto the foil to transfer the color.

Note:  One video shows spraying water on the paper first, the other shows spraying water on the marker first.  Try it both ways and see what works best for you! Add science into art by thinking about what might work best and testing both strategies.

Grades 3-5

Lesson : Earth Art

This project requires going outside to play with nature.

Check out Andy Goldsworthy Earth Art: preview of the movie “Leaning into the Wind”  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rAx-HsXjLvA

Make:  Get outside and make some Earth Art!  Remember that the photograph is the artwork so take cool pics and print them out.

Grades 6-8

Lesson : ART HUB – (Step by Step Drawing!)

This video series has many different ability levels.  Please pick a video that you’d like and complete the drawing.

Materials:  Paper, pencil or marker to draw, crayon or marker to color.

Watch:  Art for kids hub:  https://www.youtube.com/user/ArtforKidsHub

Make:  Pick a drawing video and try it out.  Finish the drawing by coloring in the whole thing with your own background.    Use your creativity to make this drawing unique. Will you outline the drawing in a heavy black line or keep it light and faded on the edge?  What is your style? How can you make this piece of art special?
